Sam Pearson of Bristol Grammar School (Year 11) reports on win at WWQ

On November 18th 2015, Bristol Grammar School took two teams to Redland High School for the annual Worldwise Geography Quiz. One team was made up of three year 10 students, their first time doing the quiz, and the year 11 team (including myself) taking part in our second quiz. The previous year we came fourth and were hoping to improve on that result this year.BGS_B
The quiz tested all aspects of our geography knowledge, including an alphabet round where the first letter of the first answer was ‘A’ and so on so forth and a fieldwork round, which tested our practical knowledge. Our team was did very well on the place recognition from Google Earth images, where we scored 19 out of 20, which gave us a solid lead into the final round.
We were elated to win the quiz and it was a fantastic end to a great quiz (and not to mention the great buffet!) We would like to thank Redland High for hosting a great event, the Bristol Geographical Association for continuing to put on the quiz each year. We would also like to thank our geography teacher, Mrs Gathercole, for accompanying us to the event and our Head of Geography, Mrs Foster, for selecting us to compete in this fantastic quiz and we look forward to the next round against the Bath winners in March 2016.
